On Loss Tune [sketch #2]

Explorations in the key of G major for a tune on loss, part ii.

I wanted to share with my supporters what I’ve been noodling around with musically this week. I picked up my acoustic guitar on a hot day outside my studio, it was slightly out of tune with a string missing, and it isn’t my first choice of instrument* but I found some ideas on it which I’ve put into a sketch accompanied by the metallophone and bowed guitar. I may use it or translate this onto the piano or other instruments or maybe not use the track at all but I wanted to let you into the world of myriad sketches and versions a tune goes through before it becomes a part of the whole. I learned guitar after my dad bought me an acoustic back in the early 90s when I was a keen teen. It’s my first instrument but one I rarely write on these days, preferring other instruments and sounds, but I was surprised by my familiarity with the instrument and the way I could put it all out there on it that day. I hope you enjoy the sketch and thank you for your support and listening.

Joel

*I feel like it’s too familiar and easy to produce music on and much prefer the discovery of newer sounds but may one day return to fretted instruments.
